Art Battle 45

It’s that time of the month again…the beloved Art Battle returns Tuesday, February 26th with Art Battle 45. The live competitive painting event draws a variety of twenty and thirty-somethings to Queen West’s Great Hall in Toronto each month. In case you haven’t heard, the concept is as such: painters create the best works of art they can in 20 minutes. As they work, patrons move around the easels, closely watching the creative process. The medium is acrylic paint and the tools allowed are brushes, palette knives or any non-mechanical implements. At the end of the round, the audience votes democratically for their favourite painting and bids in silent auction to take the work home.

The competition is heating up across the country to qualify for a spot in the upcoming 2013 National Championship. Current champion Yared Nigussu will defend his title in July against winners from across Canada. On Tuesday, 16 painters will compete in a tournament of skill and courage, the audience will decide by vote who deserves to be the champion. Two additional painters will be chosen randomly ‘from the hat’ at the event.

Tickets available at the door $20 / $10 (w/Student ID)

12-Month Membership passes also available.
