Apple Will Now Buy Back Your Old Broken iPhone

Life is a struggle. Protective phone cases are fugly.

These are just facts.

So it’s hardly our fault if cell phones take the occasional spill. A sleepy morning hand floundering to silence our alarms or a teensy bar mishap after one too many cocktails can cause devastation in the blink of an iPhone.

And if you’re feeling underwhelmed by the artsy kaleidoscopic aftermath of a shattered screen, cool your jets before you rush off and pay to have it fixed.

According to Mark Gurman of 9to5Mac, starting this week if you have an iPhone 5s, 6 or 6 Plus with a broken screen, camera or buttons, Apple will buy it back from you.

The Apple Store Reuse and Recycle iPhone trade-in program currently allows customers to bring in older models and trade for credit towards their next phone, but up until now those with a broken display or damaged buttons have been deemed ineligible for the scheme.

Now, in a bid to encourage upgrades instead of opting for an iPhone screen’s repair, customers who have really done a number on their cell can receive money off their next device.

Your broken (within reason) old iPhone can now fetch you $50 for a 5s, $200 for a 6, and $250 for a 6 Plus, based on the current trade-in values.

Gurman  says that all Apple Stores will also start offering plastic screen protector installations in the coming weeks, having partnered with manufacturers Belkin.
