Andrea Moore: Today’s Notable Young Professional

Today’s Notable Young Professional is E. & J. Gallo Winery Brand Manager Andrea Moore, who’s immersed in the world of wine for what are no doubt some of your favourite brands. Perhaps it’s no surprise, then, that her top travel hot spot is Italy, or that her career is one that evolves and matures almost daily. Here’s what you can learn from her inspiring career path…

Elevator Pitch: Describe your job in a nutshell.
I’m a Brand Manager at E. & J. Gallo Winery where I manage Apothic, Carnivor, Starborough & Da Vinci Wines.

Why did you start working at your company? What was the inspiration for this career route?
E. & J. Gallo Winery is the largest family-owned winery in the world and a true leader in the industry. The company is very passionate about the products that they sell and that passion was translated to me during the interview process. I immediately felt that I wanted to be a part of the Gallo Family Winery. I was excited at the opportunity to join an incredible team and have the opportunity to work with some amazing brands.

The inspiration for this career route really came at a time when I was looking for change. Before transitioning over to wine, I wasn’t passionate about what I was doing and I wasn’t being challenged in the way I wanted to be. When the opportunity came to me, I jumped on it and immediately felt charged up and ready to learn. As a category, wine has so much breadth and depth to it – there is always a story to tell and a new consumer to share that story with.

What is the best part of what you do on a day-to-day basis? The most challenging part?
The best part of my day-to-day is working with fantastic individuals to make things happen. I love to collaborate, discuss, and learn from those around me. Since my job allows me to engage with team members from many different areas of the business as well as outside partners, I’m constantly learning and challenging myself in new ways, which is a great thing.

The most challenging aspect of my day is trying to wear a variety of different hats at the same time. There are so many moving parts and our business moves at a very fast pace. I need to be efficient, proactive, and keep things moving. Organization is key!

What is one sign that you’ve seen over the years to suggest that your work/life balance is off?
Probably the biggest sign for me is when I’m on vacation and all my emails on my phone have been read and responded to. It is so hard to detach, so it’s definitely an area I could improve on.

What is the most memorable milestone in your career?
The most memorable milestone in my career thus far has been my promotion into my current role. I was definitely up for the challenge and ready to jump in with both feet.

Do you have any advice for other young professionals?
There are two pieces of advice that I would offer…

Trust your instincts. It’s very easy to doubt and second-guess yourself, but I find that in all facets of life, there is always a “gut” instinct that gives you a sense of direction. I’ve learned that my gut never lies and it’s never steered me in the wrong direction. Trust yourself and feel confident in the decisions you make.

Second, take advantage of the opportunity to learn from those around you. This includes team members who are senior to you as well as your peers. Everyone has different experiences that can make you a better business professional.

When you’re not working how do you love to spend your “Me” time?
I like to spend my down time with my husband. Our Monday to Friday can get quite busy, so it’s nice on weekends when things slow down to spend time together and reconnect. We don’t need to do anything fancy; my favourite thing is probably staying in, watching our latest Netflix obsession, and having a casual dinner.

Where is your favourite place to travel? Why?
I’ve been fortunate to travel to many places, but my favourite by far is Italy. There is just something about the food!), the landscapes, and the lifestyle that speaks to me. It is a beautiful country and I would go back there in a heartbeat.

Do you support any charities? If so, which one(s) and why is that important to you?
I love supporting local animal shelters in our area.

What to you is notable?
Integrity. Stay true to yourself, who you are, and what you believe in.
