An Insanely Cute Dog Runs for the First Time Thanks to 3D Printed Legs. Seriously.

The future is here – and it’s brought to you by 3D printing and an insanely cute puppy.

Derby the dog was born with underdeveloped front limbs, and while he was otherwise a perfectly healthy dog, his condition almost led to him being put down.

And if that’s not bad enough, his owners eventually decided they didn’t want him anymore.

After spending some time at a shelter, Derby met someone who would both embrace and improve his life. That person was Tara Anderson, and it’s the way in which she improved Derby’s life that’s truly inspiring.

As the director of a company that specializes in 3D printing, she worked together with her team to create a pair of prosthetic legs custom-fitted for Derby’s anatomy. Rather than accepting that Derby’s best chance of an improved life lies tied to a wheeled cart, the team at 3D Systems used their expertise to produce a truly innovative solution.

Not only is the video going to make you sob, it’s going to make you consider all the future implications 3D printing has in store for us:
