An American Dentist is the ‘Hunter’ Who Killed Cecil the Lion

We told you yesterday about this horrific story.

And it seems it’s only getting worse. According to The Telegraph, Zimbabwe’s most famous cat was cut down by Walter James Palmer, a dentist from Minnesota.

“As far as I understand, Walter believes that he might have shot that lion that has been referred to as Cecil,” said the spokesman. “What he’ll tell you is that he had the proper legal permits and he had hired several professional guides, so he’s not denying that he may be the person who shot this lion. He is a big-game hunter; he hunts the world over.”

Yup, real big man.

Clearly, the Internet has reacted (very aggressively). Currently, the Facebook page for River Bluff Dental (Palmer’s practice) was overrun so quickly with hate-filled messages that it appears to have been taken down. The Yelp page is still up and running, and filled with ‘five-star’ reviews (to keep them at the top) that are pretty much what you’d expect when the internet has been told you pay money to kill an innocent lion. And Twitter is already filled with death threats against Palmer.

According to Minnesota’s Star Tribune, Palmer has said, “Obviously, some things are being misreported.”

Since The Telegraph has claimed “two independent sources” have identified Palmer as the hunter who killed Cecil, and have also stated that they’ve seen a copy of the hunting permit, we’re not really sure how much Palmer’s insights are going to be able to get him out of this, but we look forward to hearing them.
