Last night when Adele gave her acceptance speech for winning Album Of The Year, she did what the most humble, selfless and enlightened people do — she took her moment to lift somebody else up, and give them light.

Many, many people felt disappointed and confused that it wasn’t Beyoncé who won the award for Album Of The Year for Lemonade, including Adele. A Black woman hasn’t won Album Of The Year in almost two decades and only three Black artists have ever won Album Of The Year: Lauren Hill, Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder.
Adele won Album Of The Year but she was the first person to acknowledge that 2016 really belonged to Beyoncé and Lemonade.
