A Notable Night at the Absolut Elyx Candlelight Club

Earlier this week we had the chance to attend a unique candlelight dinner courtesy of The Social Concierge, Wildebeest and Absolut Elyx in Gastown. A sense of ambiance was perfectly set by hundreds of flickering candles placed throughout the room, providing a certain sense of mysteriousness and intimacy for the night ahead.

We arrived to Wildebeest (120 W Hastings St) just in time for cocktail service and a bit of mingling with other invited guests as live jazz music wafted through the room, adding a special, classy vibe.

On hand was the team behind Absolut’s Elyx brand, who had created a half dozen craft cocktails for the night, paired alongside the various different dishes (thanks to Chef Wesley Young) to be served. The concept for the evening’s multi-course meal being ‘One Source’ meant that all ingredients used arrived to our table courtesy of Salt Spring Island vendors and producers. You can’t get much more ‘local’ than that.

The special menu featured items such as glazed hakuri turnips served with pine-roasted celeriac, whole-roasted lamb alongside hay-roasted carrots and slow poached egg. Cocktails such as the Wildebeest wine cooler and the Beetlejuice went down ever so well.

There was plenty of time to chat to neighbouring guests between courses, and we made notable use of the opportunity to learn more about future Candlelight Dinners already in the mix for 2014 as Rosie & Jugheads crooned jazzy tunes in the background.
