A Look Inside New City Gas

Any rumors that Montreal’s Griffintown area is similar to New York’s meat-packing district have never been more true than now with the opening of the New City Gas club and music venue. Notable was in attendance at the VIP opening of New City Gas’s 5-7 happy hour, and immediately became fans of the gigantic, rustic venue.

Built in 1859, New City Gas originally housed the coal burning power that once lit up the city of Montreal. Today, producer of New City Gas’ Thursday 5 a 7 events Dave Bernier states that the venue will once again light up the city, with incredible music acts, unique décor, and a notable crowd of young professionals.

New City Gas will host a Thursday 5-7, intended to bring the same vibe as the extremely popular (now closed) Cafe des Eclusiers.  Additionally, the large versatile space will be used to host Saturday night music events. This month Tiesto and David Guetta will be stopping by.

With a view of the grand Five Roses flour factory in the distance and the sounds of VIA rail trains mixed in with ambient electronic music, we very much enjoyed our complimentary Coronas on the warm terrace of New City Gas, and will surely be checking out the industrial-style, yet comfortable spot again soon.
