A Family of Three Will Canoe From Edmonton to Montreal This Summer in the Most Badass Road Trip Ever

A lot of people would think twice about embarking on a 3,500-kilometre, 35-hour straight road trip.

One family, meanwhile, is jumping at the opportunity to canoe that distance over a four-month period.

Benoit Gendreau-Berthiaume and his wife, Magali Moffatt, along with their five-year-old son Mali, are paddling from Edmonton to Montreal this summer simply to fulfill a passion that once started as a joke.

“It’s been a pretty intense life doing my PhD here, moving to a new city, and seeing our son grow up so quickly — we kind of wanted to slow down the pace and spend quality family time as we were moving back out east,” says Gendreau-Berthiaume.

We couldn’t think of a better way to accomplish that goal.

The family will depart from Capilano Park on May 1, follow a path of all terrains imagineable, and dock their canoe on Montreal Island, where they will settle upon arrival.

You can follow their progress on their blog, well as on FacebookTwitterInstagram, and Vimeo.
