A Diner Style Lunch at Joe Fortes

A visit to Joe Fortes Seafood & Chophouse (777 Thurlow Street) is a step back in time. Not much has changed over the years at this Vancouver institution, and that’s not a bad thing. The room is framed by dark mahogany millwork, polished brass, and red Verona marble. Servers clad in white aprons roam to live piano music drifting from the second floor. It’s a classic atmosphere that few restaurants still offer, and now the new Joe’s Diner Classics Lunch Menu is paying homage to another bygone era.

Executive Chef Wayne Sych created the menu, drawing inspiration from his early career working at a Langley diner. The result is tasty and filling comfort food that will give your next lunch meeting a classic and comforting vibe. Just three choices make for a small selection but a difficult decision:

Cheeseburger – $9.95
A fresh baked bun is topped with a house-made patty and, of course, a secret sauce. A slice of cheese and a few fresh veggies make for a light burger that will disappear before you know it.

Fried Chicken – $9.95
Two pieces of impossibly crisp chicken rest on a bed of creamy mashed potatoes next to an even creamier coleslaw. If that’s not rich enough for you, a side of sausage gravy is on hand for drizzling and dipping as you see fit.

Baked Macaroni and Cheese – $9.95
Loads of Swiss and parmesan cheese, cream sauce, macaroni, and bread crumbs are baked to perfection in a skillet. You’ll likely down the accompanying fresh baked biscuit before the server has a chance to offer up the pepper grinder.

The Diner Classics menu is available during lunch hours from Monday to Friday until March 28. Click here or call 604-669-1940604-669-1940  for more information.
