A Day at the Races: The Deighton Cup

This weekend we dug out our best racecourse attire, dusted-off our feathered fascinators and headed out to the Hastings Racecourse for one of the summer’s best events: The Deighton Cup.

Without a cloud in sight and temperatures at a seasonal high, it was the perfect day to chill out trackside, letting the North Shore Mountains provide the dramatic backdrop. Upon arrival, we made our way along the red carpet, stopping for an obligatory picture at the photo wall prior to moving past the never-ending concession line to catch the tail-end (pun-intended) of our first race.

Helping to up the ante on this classy affair, Auto|One Leasing had a fleet of fancy wheels on display for our drooling privilege. Especially eye-catching was a Ferrari replete with luxe plaid finish.

This fashionable party was packed with Vancouver’s young professionals decked out in their best ascots and summer attire, and the perfect spot to do a little bit of upper-class networking – Mint Julep in-hand. We made sure to meander our way through the various marquee tents, checking out the pop-up fedora shop, and cigar and bourbon bars on offer to attendees.

After placing our obligatory bet (alas, not a winner), we made our way over to the Veuve Clicquot VIP area to drown our sorrows in a glass of champagne alongside other young professionals dressed to impress. We managed to snap a few cool shots of the event’s best-dressed before heading out to mix and mingle a bit more among the masses.

Party-goers were privy to the edgy new folk-rock sounds of Maria in the Shower and the eclectic-electric beats courtesy of official event DJ Johnny Jover, who worked hard to help gear up the party until late in the afternoon.

Always a perfectly blended afternoon of fancy and fun, Deighton Cup is definitely an event worth noting (and one to add to your must-do Notable social calendar for next year).
