8 Canadian Swimsuit Designers You Should Add to Your Collection

As the temperature continues to rise (hello, long weekend!) we’re eagerly anticipating the countless summer days we plan to spend at the beach, pool, and lake.

As Canadians, it’s our duty to take full advantage of our too-short summers.

No matter the location, none of these occasions is complete without an amazing bathing suit. So the next time you’re prepping to head to the nearest body of the water, consider taking a Canadian designer as your plus one.

With a variety of unique styles, 8 of our favourite homegrown designers show off their a-game (and some skin) below:

Designed for the beach and beyond, Beth Richards gives us luxurious modern swimwear. The Toronto-born Vancouver resident has been featured in high profile magazines such as Vogue, Fashion Magazine, and Bazaar. A piece from her latest collection was also recently spotted on Khloe Kardashian. With clean silhouettes and fun bikinis, there’s a suit for any woman at every age.

Smooch Swimwear Smooch Swimwear is a luxurious brand of swim and beachwear. The line is full of glamorous and flirty pieces like sparkly and bold colored bathing suits. Canadian designer Karmel Ottilia prides herself in running her business with a boutique and exclusive approach to ensure the utmost quality is given to each swimsuit. Upcoming Vegas plans? No doubt you should pack a Smooch swimsuit with you.

Reese
Make a statement in Reese’s latest collection, which features strong, badass silhouettes. Debuting at Los Angeles Fashion Week Spring 2016, Toronto-born designer Sherise continued to go against the grain and brought monochrome aesthetics to the runway. Instead of opting for a colourful bathing suit, join the dark side with Reese’s latest collection.

Based in Hamilton, designer Natasha Gattina provides women with a romantic and minimalistic approach to swimwear. Gattina is known for its natural and rich colour palettes and classic prints that are practical for any upcoming vacation. After being featured in Flare and LouLou Magazine, we have our eye on this up and coming Canadian designer.

Anna Kosturova Vancouver designer Anna Kosturova collections are filled with hand-crocheted and silk tie dye pieces. As each piece takes time to develop (roughly 2-3 years), Anna designs one new collection each year, coining her brand as not fast, disposable fashion. With a boho-aesthetic, Anna certainly brings something new to the beach.

Honubelle
Calgary-based designer, Julia Barnes began designing Honubelle after she felt there was a gap in the swimwear market for active women. Her collection proves that function and style can go hand-in-hand. There is no need to sacrifice style when partaking in water activities. All the pieces are designed in Calgary with imported Italian fabric, and are produced in Bali, Indonesia. If you’re a woman looking for sporty swimwear with a sexy edge, Honubelle is your answer.
