7 Canadian Adult Summer Camps You Definitely Want Top Bunk At

For many of us, the time we spent at summer camp is among our favourite childhood memories.

And yeah, it was a very sad day the summer you knew it was your last.

If you’re still scrambling to make summer travel plans though, you may want to get nostalgic (without the nighttime curfews) and consider a trip back to camp.

Here are 7 adults-only summer camps in Canada that you probably never knew existed…

Two Islands Weekend
If you want something to look forward to post-Labour Day, you may want to book a weekend away at Camp Timberlane in the Haliburton Highlands September 11 to 13. Basically, you can expect a traditional camp experience – but all mixed in with no shortage of flowing booze and 150 other young professionals. It will still be warm enough for a lake swim or canoe ride. It’s not a total circus though – more refined activities include wine tastings, writing workshops, and yoga by the lake. Find out more here.

SOS Wilderness Survival
If you’re more interested in brushing up those survival skills than boozing, you may want to book a stay at SOS Wilderness Survival in northern Saskatchewan. Here, you’ll learn to live off the land in a way that may shellshock the big city young professionals. Described as a “total survival experience,” you’ll learn how to fend for yourself in everything from foraging for food and water, building a shelter, making the most of the natural resources in your surroundings, and navigating the great Canadian wilderness. So basically, this isn’t for the ‘precious’ set. Find more information here.

Canadian Adventure Camp
Who says a little adventure has to end once you’ve become an adult? Kick off what will surely be an epic summer on a private island in the very Instagram-worthy Temagami lakes region of Ontario. Held August 29-September 4, you’ll be able to tap into your inner child with things like massive water slides, climbing walls, water skiing, a Tarzan swing, and surfbikes. Find more information here.

Camp Le P’tit Bonheur
Montreal young professionals in need of a road trip and a little nostalgic memory-making can hit Camp Le P’tit Bonheur in the Laurentians. It offers a chance to disconnect (and we can all use a little of that) as you experience all the old-fashioned camp fun like campfires, jam sessions, non-motorized water sports, obstacle courses, hiking, swimming, and Frisbee-golf. The adult camp takes place over a weekend in September. Find more information here.

Jamboree LGBTQ Summer Camp
At Jamboree LGBTQ Summer Camp, you’ll get to join 225 other lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer fellow campers on a private lake in Ontario’s famous Algonquin Park. You can expect all the traditional outdoorsy activities you know and love from your summer camp days (you know, everything from kayaking to volleyball) but with a very colourful twist – nightly talent shows and a closing costume party. The camp runs August 16 to 23, with eight, five, and three-day options. Find more information here.

Zombie Survival Camp
If you’re among the zombie-obsessed set, or have a burning desire to learn how to survive the zombie apocalypse, then Zombie Survival Camp in Bancroft, Ontario may be for you. You’ll learn things like weapon making, hand-to-hand combat, archery, survival and leaderships skills, and everything else you’ll need to take on a simulated zombie attack. The camp runs August 7-9. Find more information here.

Lifelong Learning Centre
If you’re looking for an adult camp experience with more of a focus on centering yourself than wild booze-filled party, hit B.C.’s Cortes Island. The experience offers methods to find inner happiness, therapeutic writing, yoga, organic meals, and no shortage of opportunities to connect with the world around you. Hot tubs with stunning ocean views provide an ideal setting to take it all in. Programs are offered all summer long. Find more information here.
