6 Places to Snag a Christmas Tree In and Around Toronto

While the most important things in life can’t fit under a tree (e.g., beaches, divorce lawyers, and TMZ), a majestic Christmas conifer towering over your living room sure is a pretty sight.

Especially when it’s covered in shiny decorations, sheltering a sea of gifts and soaked in your dog’s urine.

Well, ideally not the last thing. But realistically, you know it’s gonna happen.

The question is, where can you get a great tree in and around Toronto?

Everyone knows they can swing over to Canadian Tire and drop a few hundred bucks on a 3-piece knock-off. But if you’re going to do the tree thing, you might as well do it properly.

Well, these are a few spots between here and Bethlehem where you can find something to spruce up your home for the J-Man’s birthday…

Downtown Christmas Tree Market
When:
December 13th and 14th
Where:
161 Pearl Street (El Caballito), Toronto

Between 10am and 4pm the popular Mexican restaurant, El Caballito is teaming up with EZ Tree to offer a great selection of Ontario-grown Fraser Firs and the much-needed luxury of home delivery. Go for the trees, stay for the après ski party.

Evergreen Brickworks
When:
Weekdays 10am-8pm, Saturday 8am-8pm, Sunday 9am-8pm, Xmas Eve 10am-4pm
Where: 550 Bayview Ave, Toronto

By now, most of us have heard of or visited this awesome factory-turned-enviro-friendly market and event space; maybe for a dog-walk, maybe for an organic farmers market, and very likely for a wedding. So it’s no surprise that they also have over 750 sustainably/locally sourced Christmas trees available in everything from condo-size to mansion-massive. And feel free to make a whole day of it as they have a winter market and skating rink running all month as well.

Plant World
When:
Weekdays 9am-8pm, Weekends 9am-6pm
Where: 4000 Eglinton Ave W., Etobicoke

Open all year round and offering more roots than The Jimmy Fallon Show (hey-o!), this place is close, knowledgeable, and just filled with green. They have Nordman Firs, Douglas Firs, Fraser Firs…hell, if there’s a tree named after a some dude, they probably have it.

East End Garden Centre
When: Monday – Friday 8am -7pm, Saturday 8am-6pm, Sunday 9am-6pm
Where: 1395 Queen St. E., Toronto

If you’re even slightly East-ish, this is a perfect spot to check out. Not only do they have a great selection of fresh cut firs and pines but they also sell most of the decorations you’ll need. Just because Santa has to make 8 billion stops, doesn’t mean you should have to.

Chickadee Christmas Trees
When:
Fridays 1-8pm, Weekends 10am-5pm
Where: 6639 Wellington County Rd 34., Puslinch (Only 20 mins from Milton)

With a name that cute, how can you not make the trip to Puslinch? For pre-cut, they have 5-12 foot Balsam and Fraser firs and Scotch and White pines. If you want to hack your own, they offer Scotch Pine, White Pine, White Spruce and Balsam Fir for $42 + tax. They also have decorations and apple cider available in their gift shop.

Horton’s Magic Hill Tree Farm
When: Saturdays and Sundays, December 6th – 21st
Where: 13953 Ninth Line, Stouffville

Get ready for a drive and a workout. Since 1964, these folks have been running one of the finest “cut-your-own” Christmas tree operations in the region. Dogs (on-leash) are welcome, they DO have wagon rides but since this is an all-natural affair, leave the plastic at home; only cash and Frankincense accepted. Bring your own saw if you can.
