5 Things to Do in Calgary While Summer’s Still Here

Many of our favourite shops have already begun to showcase their fall collections during the past several weeks – but we know better than to jump on that trend just yet. Anyone who lives in Calgary knows that September is actually one of the nicest months for hot, sunny days, and with that we’ve been inspired to create a countdown of things that you can do to celebrate the last days of balmy weather.

1. Jump In
Stanley Park is one of the prettiest places to sit along the river. Located on the Elbow bike pathway, this is the perfect place to catch some afternoon sun, get caught up on the latest Vogue/GQ issue, and to go for a dip.

Alternatively, if you’re looking for one last hurrah in nature, then drive your lawn chairs and swimsuit to Elbow Falls for an impromptu Saturday afternoon hangout. The rugged beauty of the mountains and the cool glacial waters will make you feel like you’ve made the most of having K-country in your backyard.

2. Picnic in Style
If you didn’t get on the invited list for Diner en Blanc this year, you can still participate in City Palate’s second annual Really Long Dinner Table. The dinner party will stretch down Stephen Avenue to accommodate one of the classiest foodie events going. Dine on five courses of food and wine from top restaurants like Blink, Divino and Teatro.

3. One Final Fun Run
September 12th is one of the final fun runs of the season here in town. During the Electro Dash 5-km race, Canada Olympic Park will make you feel like you’re running through the world’s biggest dance party.

As you and your friends sprint to the finish line you’ll pass through fog and sound tunnels, run past an illuminated landscape of trees and water, and be able to take in a mesmerizing light show. At the end of the race, the party will continue with DJs and amazing photo ops.

4. Enjoy a Cone
There’s nothing better than stopping for a cone at Village Ice Cream after a hot day and a long bike ride. Before the weather turns, make sure to stop in at this hip local ice cream joint to sample the small batch treats that we’ve come to crave. This time we’re recommending the Phil and Sebastian Coffee flavour.

5. Get Your Time in on the Patio
We have some of the best patio spots going. Oak Tree Tavern, The Ship, National on 8th – and now there’s Container Bar to add to that list. Brasserie is Kensington’s newest summer installation and has been the talk of the town since opening in July; if you haven’t made it down for a gin and tonic yet, then you need to re-organize your to-do list.
