5 Restaurants That Won’t Let You Down on Queen West

Look, depending on who you’re talking to, Queen West can begin and end in a heck of a lot of different places. But for today’s purpose, we’re limiting ourselves to a little sweet spot right in the middle – a simple 1.5km stretch on either side of Trinity Bell Woods Park. The five restaurants we’re recommending don’t fall under fad of the week, they’ve spent years proving their worth

Look, depending on who you’re talking to, Queen West can begin and end in a heck of a lot of different places. But for today’s purpose, we’re limiting ourselves to a little sweet spot right in the middle – a simple 1.5km stretch on either side of Trinity Bell Woods Park. The five restaurants we’re recommending don’t fall under fad of the week, they’ve spent years proving their worth. Whether you’re in a pinch, you happen to be passing by, or you’re looking for quality over visibility, these five spots will always be a good decision. Looking for something a little further East? Czehoski
This is basically a Toronto institution. Originally built in the 1880s, Czehoski’s revamped look now evokes the perfect blend of downtown sophistication and heritage warmth. They offer daily and weekly specials for both garb and booze. Tuck into their Palmerston Burger or enjoy the Artisanal Cheese Board and you won’t be sorry. If you’re more in the mood for cocktails and conversation, head upstairs to their stylish second and third floor lounge.

Noce
Situated right on the southeast corner of the park, Noce received an Award of Excellence from the Wine Spectator for nine straight years. Not only that, Joanne Kates named it as one of the Top 10 Toronto Restaurants in 2011. This is one Italian eatery that’s been doing it right for years. It’s elegant, full of old-world charm, and offers traditional Italian dishes that make mom’s homemade spaghetti and meatballs hang their head in shame.

The County General
By far the youngest restaurant on this list, The County General has proven itself in just two short years. Its intimate space is filled with warm wood tables, a long, welcoming bar, and enough bourbon and aged rum to keep us (way too) happy for days. They refer to their style of cooking as down-home seasonal (think Southern) and offer everything from brunch to dinner – dinner, however, is the only time you can get the Pigs Head Pancetta! Add in a team of expert mixologists and this is a great spot to enjoy any meal.

The Drake
It may sound a bit obvious, but The Drake’s quality control is what always makes it worth going back to. Simply put, their meals are as consistent as their branding. And with such a stylish space to hang out in, it’s no wonder the dining room is always packed. There’s simply no denying that this Queen West mainstay is a cool spot to head to for any occasion. Haters can hate – we’ll be at The Drake.

Julie’s Cuban Cafe
Ok, ok. So it’s not actually on Queen West. What – you’ve never ventured from the path before? The reason Julie’s Cuban Cafe is on the list is because it deserves to be. The rejuvenated 60s snack bar fits right in alongside the residential streets on Dovercourt to make you feel like you’re heading into someone’s house for dinner. And lucky you, this dinner party is full of authentic Cuban food that’s gonna make your mouth water and your stomach cry for more. If you haven’t ever made the short jump from Queen West to Julie’s, you’re missing out on one of our favourite meals in the city.
