5 Reasons You Should Have Been at Our Calgary Discovery Sessions

A world-class athlete, a wine party, and a welcome introduction to a hot downtown venue.

Hump days will never be the same after the event that took place this week. The energy from the crowd was incredible and left the Notable team with one conclusion: we need to throw more parties.

This is undoubtedly the hardest month to make plans with anyone in YYC (because everyone’s social calendar seems to be jam packed). But despite the abundance of festivals, galas, and grand openings this week, YPs were still knocking down the door to attend the Notable & Apothic Wine Discovery Sessions at Black Betty on Wednesday night.

If you missed out, these are the top 5 reasons you should consider that a mistake.

1. The Keynote
It’s pretty safe to say that Olympic athletes are, by nature, intense. And three-time medalist Kaillie Humphries, the evening’s keynote speaker, is no exception.

Over 150 of Calgary’s top YPs packed the house to be captivated by her story of discipline, drive, and triumph, and definitely got what they came for. They key to her message was a mantra she discovered through mentor and fellow Canadian Olympian, Marnie McBean: Why not you?

Inspirational words from an inspirational YP.

2. The Wine
Who can argue with free-flowing vino, courtesy of our friends at Apothic Wines? Guests were treated to glass upon glass of their crowd-pleasing classics Red and White, but also to Apothic’s brand new blends. Currently only available in select markets, Rose, not rose-ay, is light and delicious and tastes just like summer on a sunny patio, while Dark (available everywhere but Quebec) seduces the senses with notes of black cherry and mocha.

Both were great discoveries, if you ask us.

3. The Notable Crowd
September is a hectic month on the Cowtown social scene, and even our Wednesday affair faced off against opposing events like the Nordstrom opening gala.

The Notable guest list showed no signs of competition, however, as an impressive group of YPs from every industry filled the lower level of Black Betty, creating a super-charged atmosphere perfect for networking and catching up – not to mention looking good while doing it.

4. The Food
Black Betty is always a go-to spot for dates and power lunches, providing your compatriots appreciate a stellar burger. Mini versions of their signature fare were a crowd favourite, but the kitchen pulled out some surprising gems, too.

Arancini with a kick and fried truffle mac and cheese? Yes please.

5. The Venue
With beer halls and pubs dominating the current landscape of Calgary nightspots, Black Betty provided a refreshingly chic setting for a night of discovery. The décor is elegant but not extravagant, which on most weekends (when the dance floor is open) sets the scene for a sultry night of YP action.

If we discovered nothing else at this exclusive event, it’s that we want to throw more parties for the fabulous YP crowd in Calgary. Oh, and that Apothic Wine is definitley a YP crowd pleaser.
