21 Signs She or He is Your Best Friend

In most cases, a trusted best friend is any young professional (YP)’s best accessory.

But ‘best friend’ isn’t a title to be thrown around loosely or given to just anyone.

Does he or she fit the bill?

1. You have at least one nickname for one another.
And nobody else thinks they’re quite as funny as the two of you do.

2. The same can be said for nicknames of other people.
This is especially the case when it comes to people you’re dating (you know it’s true).

3. The nicknames are just part of your own specific language.
Which is peppered with references to inside jokes that nobody else gets, terms the two of you made up, and general ridiculousness.

4. In any noteworthy situation, they’re the first person you call.
When you finally got that raise, when you were proposed to, when you went through that brutal break-up, when you humiliated yourself at the grocery store, when you discovered a new favourite taco place… they were the first person you called.

5. You fight like siblings.
Because you know they’ll always be there and because you don’t have to be on your best behaviour the way you do your newer friends. You’ll make-up within the hour anyway.

6. Their parents are like your parents and your parents are like their parents.
They lecture you, yell at you, hug you, kiss you… it’s warranted. They can do it all.

7. You know exactly their ‘type’.
And laugh when they get set up or hit on by the opposite of this.

8. You two can be doing absolutely nothing and still manage to have the best time.
Remember that time… on the couch… sitting…

9. The majority of your memories (and lack thereof) are with them.
And if you’re struggling to remember if they were there or not, you choose to just assume they were.

10. You can talk smack about them here and there, but the second someone else does…
Ohhh, hell.

11. He or she is your best wingman or wing woman
What exactly makes a good wing person? We can give you a whole list here.

12. They know just as much about you as you know about yourself…
Sometimes even more.

13. It sometimes scares you how comfortable you are around them.
“TMI” simply does not exist between you two. In fact, there can never be enough TMI. You can even pee with the door open.

14. There’s no fooling them; they can very, very easily tell the difference between what you’re saying and you’re feeling. And vice versa.
It’s kind of like lying to your mom… just don’t do it.

15. Getting together with them is effortless.
There’s no “what are you doing Thursday the 24th?” It’s more like, “can I come over? I’m outside.”

16. Their siblings are like your siblings.
The more the merrier, right?

17. They will honestly tell you when you’re not looking so hot.
And if that shirt does indeed make you look chunky.

18. Half of your closet consists of their clothing.
That shirt from 8th grade? They’ve been looking for it til this day.

19. Once in a while your parents have the audacity to compare the two of you.
“You know I hear _____ is doing this with their year, maybe you want to think of trying something like that?”

20. You have a shoebox full of old photos of the two of you.
And every so often they make perfect material for #tbt.

21. They’re even featured in some of your family photos.
Gang’s all here!
