19 TV Shows That Have Shot in Toronto

By Lisa Lagace

Toronto’s cinematic history is filled with films that have shot here while pretending to be an American city.

And television history is, of course, no different.

But lately we have seen more and more shows shooting Toronto as Toronto, and calling Hollywood North by its proper name is kind of a big deal to us.

So here are 19 shows that have shot in our beloved city – both representing Toronto and pretending to be a myriad of other cities throughout the world.

Suits
The beloved drama stars a Torontonian, so it should be no surprise that it sometimes shoots here as well.

Hannibal
The best show on network television (in our humble opinion) is shot right here in our glorious city. If you look hard, you’ll recognize Hannibal’s home and office exteriors, along with many other buildings frequented in the show.

Lucky 7
While this Steven Spielberg-produced ABC drama didn’t exactly make for a hit, it did take to our streets during production.

Reign
Sure, it follows Mary, Queen of Scots’ rise to power as a 15-year-old arriving in France, but there’s nothing French about their shooting location.

Warehouse 13
The sci-fi series is produced and shot right here in the Big Smoke, but you wouldn’t know it’s not rural South Dakota unless you pay close attention.

Orphan Black
This BBC America critical darling based on the implications of human cloning shoots Toronto for Toronto and doesn’t try to hide it. Aka, we love it.

Prison Break
While its primary shooting locations were LA and Chicago, the Fox series spent some time shooting between our walls as well.

Lost Girl
It shouldn’t really come as a surprise that this Canadian supernatural drama is shot locally. In fact, we’ve probably seen more Lost Girl shooting location signs than actual episodes.

Covert Affairs
This USA network show focuses on a young CIA trainee as she kicks ass around the world – but all those worldly locales are actually the T-Dot dressed up to look like anywhere but here.

The Divide
This new legal drama had its premiere just a few weeks ago and we hope to spot more of our own city as it continues to unfold in the coming weeks.

Gilmore Girls
While the majority of this classic coming of age show was shot down South, the pilot was actually shot right here in our very own backyard. We will cling to this fact forever.

Rookie Blue
It should come as no surprise that this Toronto-set drama is actually shot in Toronto.

Nikita
This might be one show most people do remember was shot here in the city.

The State Within
We salute this six-hour BBC political mini-series’ job of turning Toronto into Washington.

Degrassi
Of course this classic was (and still is) shot in the Toronto neighborhood it’s named after. Spike forever.

Flashpoint
The best part of watching Flashpoint wasn’t the fact that it was nice to see a well-produced Canadian show, but that it filmed our city in all its Torontonian glory.

The Listener
This CTV sci-fi drama shoots Toronto for Toronto and we couldn’t be happier about that.

This Is Wonderland
This brief CBC drama was yet another show proud to display Toronto as the city we all know it to be.

Being Erica
Yup, this CBC show was definitely shot right here – too bad it ended abruptly due to budget cuts.
