A group of Americans didn’t exactly get the Sunday Funday they had hoped for when their recreational float party went awry.

Around 1500 partiers floating about in dinghies unexpectedly washed up on Canadian shores late yesterday.

The group was participating in the annual Port Huron Float Down whereby people float down the St. Clair River in rafts and flotation devices from Port Huron, Michigan to Chrysler Beach in Marysville.

Instead, the winds pushed the floaters to a variety of points along the Canadian shore, where they had to be rescued by Sarnia police, the OPP, the Canadian Coast Guard, Canada Border Service Agency and employees from a nearby chemical company.

Some yelled “God bless Canada!” as they were helped out of the water.

Many of the floaters either were or had been drinking alcohol. Nobody brought their passport, obviously.

Worried about landing in Canada without any ID, some even tried (unsuccessfully) to swim back. The swimmers were rescued and the entire cold, wet group was eventually sent back on buses.

Luckily, there were no injuries reported.

Sarnia police have called the event hazardous for a number of reasons, for instance, the large number of participants, the fast-moving current, the weather conditions, and the lack of life jackets.

Among the list of FAQs on the Huron Float website, one specifically reads, “Don’t End Up in Canada.”

It’s also very possible they were trying to do exactly that given Donald Trump’s potential presidency.
