12 Ways to Make the Most of Your Night Out

It’s Thursday, aka: the unofficial start of the weekend for young professionals.

Naturally, that means that you just may plan to hit the town…and paint it more colours than Benjamin Moore.

But nothing’s worse (ok, a few things are) than a night of high expectations that ends up being a huge waste of time, money, and a hot outfit.

So here are 12 ways to make sure that never happens again.

Don’t rush to get ready
Nothing sets the stage better for a night on the town than a relaxed ‘getting ready’ period (wine in hand) at home. If you’re frantically scrambling, you’ll likely end up in an outfit that doesn’t really work, inevitably forgetting something and snapping at the cab driver because you’re late. Trust us.

Wear comfortable shoes
Because going home early because your feet “hurt too much” is pretty lame (but we’ve all been there). And who knows what you’ll be missing out on while you’re killing your buzz by soaking your feet in ice water at 11pm at home alone.

Start early
The earlier you start, the longer the fun will last. And even if the evening turns out to be a bust, at least you won’t feel as bad for packing it in before midnight because you started at seven. Meaning, that 10am yoga class may actually be an option…

Make sure your phone has a full battery
From surprise visits from out-of-town friends to that hot catch you met last week, if your phone runs out of battery, your night may run out of possibilities.

Use Uber
Because it’s so much easier than having to hail a cab. And you don’t have to worry about wasting time stopping at an ATM if the cab doesn’t accept credit card or debit.

Do cocktails at the newest cocktail spot
Your city’s bartenders are now called ‘mixologists’ for a reason. Start the evening sipping on one of the latest and greatest creative concoctions in the cocktail department.

Make a dinner reservation
This will just make your life easier. And to avoid the awkward standing around waiting when you’re starving (and everyone around you is eating) scenario.

Have wine or scotch at another hot spot
After the wine at dinner, change up the scenery yet again and relax at another establishment for some wine or scotch. It’s here that you can choose between making it a nightcap or converse with your – wildly texting – friends (thank God you charged your phone) to find another location to hit.

Go with the flow
After about midnight on a designated ‘night out,’ you have no choice but to go with the flow. You’re probably buzzed by this point, your friends are too, any text from this point on is probably a booty call…so, really, you could end up anywhere.

Shamelessly enjoy some late night grub
From gourmet burgers, grilled cheese, and poutine to some fine ‘street meat,’ your city has better options than ever before to soak up that booze when the late night munchies strike. Sure, it’s not the healthiest life choice you can make, but big nights out don’t happen all the time (right?) and – providing you don’t over do it and order three burgers for yourself – you’ll probably feel better in the morning if you give in.

Drink two glasses of water before bed
And pour them before you leave the house and set them by your bed…just so you don’t forget. It may seem annoying to down two more tall glasses of liquid after the booze and food, but you’ll thank yourself in the morning.

Don’t plan anything before 10am the next morning.
Brunch isn’t called breakfast for a reason.
