YYC4SlaveLake

Watching forest fires consume the small Northern Alberta community of Slave Lake gave us pause, and conversation about the tragedy roared through social media. In response, a group of young Calgarians got together to help; and YYC4SlaveLake (a name born of the Twitter hashtag, #YYC4SlaveLake) was created.

To be held on June 29th at Melrose on 17th Avenue, YYC4SlaveLake will feature live entertainment, a silent auction, a raffle, and great door prizes. Jillian Harris, Canada’s Bachelorette and designer on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition will also be in attendance.

The event is free, with donations towards the Canadian Red Cross in support of Slave Lake restoration efforts strongly encouraged. Contributions will be used to support both short-term assistance to affected families including food, shelter, and other essentials, as well as long-term rebuilding efforts.
