Young Professional Interior Design Duo Give Back To May’s Place

Starting next month, Jeff and Natalie Cuter, the husband and wife team behind design firm, Cutler, will begin working on their newest project: May’s Place.

As the only end-of-life care hospice in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside with over 20 years of service – apparent signs of wear and tear at May’s Place matched the lengthy list of much-needed upgrades.

Cutler has previously worked on a multitude of primarily retail and commercial spaces including the innovative and chic Samsung Experience Store located at Richmond Centre that opened this past year.

For Cutler, giving back to May’s Place was an important way to directly impact the neighbourhood their firm operates in. More than just a healthcare facility, May’s Place is a home for so many who are spending the last days of their lives as peacefully as possible.

Keeping the element of what makes a home feel exactly that – like a home – at the forefront of their mission, the Cutler team is eagerly planning a way to give May’s Place the facelift it deserves.

And they’re only $4,325 shy of meeting their ultimate goal of $30,000 to fund the scope of work and get going on official construction.

The concept? ‘Westcoast Warmth’.

The dining room will flip from its current clinical atmosphere feel to become a much more traditional family space where meals can be enjoyed. The plan is to replace all furnishings while adding wood-inspired wallpaper, injected with fun graphics that pay homage to Van’s geographic surroundings, and (hopefully) an audio system to further add to the ambience.

All other common living areas will also receive a similar treatment with new coats of paint in warm tones, brand new lighting and flooring, updated furniture in specific arrangements to make time spent at May’s Place as comfortable and welcoming as possible.

Cuter’s expected completion date for May’s fresh new look is just in time for spring with a big unveil planned for the patients and their loved ones.
