Yaletown Neighbourhood Welcomes its Newest Distillery

Located at 1132 Hamilton Street, we happily made our way down to Yaletown to check out the swish-looking new space for a one-on-one tasting fete featuring Yaletown Distillery‘s new Yaletown Craft Gin and Vodka offerings (courtesy of the Mark James Group).

A brief tour of the working distillery was given to the cluster of writers on hand courtesy of Master Distiller Iain Hill. With a biochemistry degree from the University of Victoria, Head Brewer Iain oversees brewers and brewing operations at all of MJB’s brewpubs and has taken the past six months developing and producing a range of spirits for the group.

Made from 100% local BC ingredients, both the gin and vodka are clean and crisp, the perfect base for classic cocktails over the holiday season (we had a chance to sip a well-made French 75 during the tasting tour for starters).

Using Peace River 2 row pale malt to create their vodka, as well as 100% BC grain, a farm-to-bottle beverage is what you can expect to sip. It’s carefully distilled on-site alongside their complex and aromatic gin that uses eight different botanicals and a vapour distillation process. With plans to increase production at their downtown facility to include grappa, whiskey, eau de vie and in-house liqueurs, we’ll definitely be making regular pit stops in the near future.

Current gin and vodka offerings are available in full and half-size bottles ($23.99 and $42.99, respectively) and would make a great addition to any collection, as a last-minute holiday gift, or stocking stuffer.

Tasting room hours are Tuesday and Wednesday, 12pm to 5pm, Thursday from 12pm until 7pm and Friday to Saturday, noon until 10pm, where you can score your own sampling of straight-up spirits… or a signature cocktail courtesy of renowned local barman Shaun Layton.
