Wild Rose Brewery

Who likes to get serious about beer? A more appropriate question might be, who doesn’t? The good folks at Calgary’s Wild Rose Brewery certainly do and they want you to love it as much as they do. Over in Currie Barracks, Wild Rose Brewery has a small restaurant that’s perfect for a quick bite and a lingering pint. They host special events, brewery tours and every Friday, they tap a new Cask Ale – just what every beer aficionado needs at the end of a work week.

If you’re having a party, Wild Rose has a special guest who should be at every Calgary celebration: a party pig. A party pig is a mini keg that holds 25 beers and resembles a certain animal that may be afraid of having his house blown down. Wild Rose Brewery also collects photos of the travels of party pigs, so if you buy one and take him somewhere exciting, be sure to submit your pics.

The food at Wild Rose definitely isn’t the deep-fried fare we’ve all come to expect to be served at pubs. Instead, they have a hearty selection of internationally inspired cuisine. For a quick bite, there are a variety of delicious appetizers including Pistachio Goat Cheese and Phyllo Wrapped Baked Brie.

A few of the mouth-watering mains feature Wild Rose beers. The Salmon Gravlax is cured with Velvet Fog and fresh dill, while the Brown Ale Pie is, naturally, made with Wild Rose Brown Ale, beef, veggies and gravy. Even two of the dessert options feature the great flavours of Wild Rose beer. The WRaspberry Cobbler is made with the same BC raspberries as the Wild Rose WRaspberry Ale. Oatmeal Stout features prominently in the Stout Chocolate Brownie, which is served with ice cream, whipped cream and topped with toasted pecans.

Whether you’re stopping in for a quitting-time pint, or looking for sustenance after a brewery tour, the Wild Rose Brewery is sure to be an enjoyable experience. Wild Rose Brewery, Building AF23, 2 4580 Quesnay Wood Dr SW, Calgary, 403-720-2733.
