Watch This Comedian Brilliantly Shut Down a Sexist Heckler in Front of His Daughters

Most people know that heckling a comedian is NOT going to end well for you.

Especially if you interrupt a poignant joke that highlights female empowerment. And more especially if the comedian is Steve Hofstetter.

On Saturday night, one sexist heckler in the audience learned his lesson the hard way – right in front of his own daughters.

And one day before Father’s Day.

Hofstetter’s opening set targeted sexist guys who moan about “unqualified” female broadcasters covering sports events. He mocked the reaction to Jessica Mendoza becoming the first female analyst in history to cover a post-season Major League Baseball game, sharing his frustration that it took until 2015 for this to happen.

He then began a series of imitations of all the meathead comments made by a special set of guys who declared Mendoza wasn’t qualified to do her job.

“There were so many men on Twitter just being like, ‘She doesn’t know what she’s talking about, she’s never played professional baseball’.”

“I’m like, ‘you’ve never played professional baseball. You’re in your mother’s basement’,'” said Hofstetter. He then highlighted how – with her two Olympic medals and a Stanford degree – she was more than qualified for the role. Not to mention, she spent three years prior as a full-time analyst for ESPN Sunday Night Baseball.

These achievements apparently weren’t impressive to the heckler, who yelled out, “next!” while Hofstetter was mid-sentence. At that point, Hofstetter promptly called him out on his interruptions, asking if he was offended that he was standing up for women – and noticed he was there with his daughters.

“You have daughters. And I was standing up for women’s rights. And you were offended by that. That’s f*!ked up, dude,” said Hofstetter about the heckler’s disregard for women’s rights before launching into a brilliant joke about women and how we’re all ‘carriers’.

“There could even be a woman in your family,” he says.”If I had a daughter, I bet she’d be one.”

Speaking of women in his family, it’s safe to say that the heckler’s daughters were thoroughly embarrassed by their dad’s behaviour. After the set was over, the heckler’s entire table of 12 apologized to Steve for their father’s performance, including his sons and daughters.

Let’s just say it wasn’t his dream Father’s Day.
