This Oil Company is Giving All of its 1381 Employees a $100k Bonus for Christmas

The energy industry isn’t necessarily known for its generous distribution of wealth.

Hilcorp Energy of Houston, Texas is a little different.

The company has had an excellent year, which in the oil and gas industry usually means an extortionate payout for the CEO and his pals. Instead of filtering revenues exclusively to the top brass, however, Hilcorp is rewarding all 1381 of its employees with a $100k bonus this Christmas.

A figure that’s likely higher than some annual salaries.

“It’s just a true gift,” said Thompson, a receptionist at the company, who added that tears of joy and hugging followed the announcement. “Somedays I just kind of look down the hall and say I can’t believe these are my bosses and they’re the best.”

The bonus was dependent on a pre-determined goal to double the size of the company over a five-year period, which was duly achieved. A similar incentive was offered in 2010, where employees were given the choice of a $50,000 car or a $35,000 cash cheque to reach the same goal. Unsurprisingly, Fortune ranked the company the 20th best in the country to work for earlier this year.

In somewhat related news, Hilcorp is currently looking for a Pipeline Control Room Operator…
