The Cop Who Told a Teen His Parents Had Been Killed Came to His Graduation

Sometimes, life isn’t fair, but this weekend Kazzie Porter taught us that it is possible to find the strength to move forward.

On May 24th, Kazzie Portie’s parents were killed by a drunk driver, a week before his high school graduation.

But Kazzie wasn’t alone when he walked across the stage for what should have been one of his proudest moments. The police officer, Eric Ellison, who had to break the tragic news to him, was waiting for him at the end of the stage.

‘Your mom and dad will have front row seats looking down from heaven, and I’ll stand in their place. I’ve got your back,’ Ellison said.

Kazzie mentioned that seeing Ellison at the end of the stage “meant the world to him”.

For us, it’s a reminder that drunk driving is never acceptable and that our generation needs to play as big a role as we can in getting these drivers off the road.

It’s also a reminder that kindness goes a very long way.
