Study: More Emojis Mean More Sex

Match.com recently published the results of their annual Singles in America survey and some of the most interesting insights revolved around people’s use of emoticons while messaging. More specifically, they found that singles in their 20s, 30s and 40s who used emojis regularly were more likely than non-emoji users to have had sex at all last year, and more likely to have had sex at least once a month.

Almost twice as likely, actually.

The most popular emoticons? Winky face, smiley face, kissy face – in that order. No information was given as to whether or not the kissy face was blowing a heart.

Also, it turns out the embarrassed monkey is embarrassed for a reason… 31% of singles would “never” use him.

The study took an even bigger picture look and found that single emoticoners were significantly more likely to want to get married; 62% versus 30%.

According to a Match.com summary of the data, “Being emojional appears to be associated with a suite of dating-related activities not otherwise accounted for by gender or age alone. It appears that single emoji users are exercising modern technology to communicate and express emotions — and are, in fact, more socially engaged.”

But not too engaged; 75% of regular emoji users agreed that 1-3 is appropriate during a text conversation with a possible date. Well, duh. FOUR winky faces in one text thread? That’s just desperate.

So that person you’ve been flirting with recently and slowly working to plan a date? Turns out you might already know a lot more about them than you think 😉
