Someone is Handing Out Piggy Banks Full of Cash in Vancouver This Morning

Vancouver’s housing prices are pretty insane, and one anonymous source has an alternative, if ineffective, solution.

Between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. this morning, someone’s giving away 300 piggy banks with up to $1,000 cash inside at 1075 West Georgia St., fuelled by the question “Do hefty Vancouver housing prices have you pinching pennies?”

“We want to give [people] a bit of a break – a little extra to help with other important financial goals. Tomorrow morning it might be $5 for their morning coffee, but it could be $100, $200 or even $1,000,” said the mystery organizer about the initiative.

“We want people to start thinking about the larger picture of their financial well-being. A mortgage is a large part of that but there are other goals that set you up for success in the future and we want to help people reach those too.”

Shortly after midnight, 30 people had already started camping out at the address, which happens to be a Coast Capital Savings branch. You can follow live updates of the action using the hashtag #VancouverGetsIt.

That about solves the mystery.

Needless to say, you should probably get there ASAP.
