ICYMI: Social media king and major key producer, DJ Khaled, has dropped “Grateful” with the help of superstars such as Beyonce, Lil Wayne and Drake. “Grateful” was exec produced by Khaled’s, infant son Asahd Khaled. Most notable is Khaled’s collaboration with Rihanna and Bryson Tiller on ‘Wild Thoughts’, which was released earlier this week, on June 16th.
If you are wondering why the beat is super catchy and very familiar, it’s because DJ Khaled sampled Carlos Santana’s 1999 hit “Maria Maria”. Khaled also enlisted the help of fellow Canadian up and comer PartyNextDoor (PND), who lent his writing skills to make Wild Thoughts the track of the summer.
PND is Jahron Anthony Brathwaite, is a producer, songwriter and rapper from Mississauga, Ontario. Brathwaite was picked up by OVO when he started gaining some local buzz. Since then he has penned some impressive hits and worked alongside some big names which includes: “Legends” for Drake, “Shining” for DJ Khaled which features. Jay-Z and Beyonce, “Sex With Me” for Rihanna and Let me for Usher.
Brathwaite was also the mastermind behind last year’s Grammy-winning summer banger “Work” with pop’s #1 goddess, Rihanna, and Toronto’s own Drake. With this in mind, Brathwaite was the perfect fit for this year’s biggest summer anthem, ‘Wild Thoughts’.
Though this song is off of DJ Khaled’s upcoming album Grateful, Rihanna was front row center, and stole the show with her style and carefree attitude. Even though trolls and haters have been body-shaming her in recent times, @badgalriri shined brighter than a diamond and effortlessly slayed the haters.
