PARKLUXE Gives Calgary Everything it Needs to Look Good This Fall

On Saturday night the Opera Tent in East Village was transformed into a luxurious party spot.

In fact, anybody who happened to be passing by was doing a double take wondering where the well-heeled crowd was headed.

The answer?

The much-anticipated PARKLUXE fashion event – which turned out to be pretty the best thing that happened in Calgary this weekend.

Beyond bubbles and bright lights, guests were treated to an up close and personal lesson in what’s hot and fashion forward for Fall 2014 with a handful of brilliant Canadian designers.

So what should you be wearing this season?

For starters, anyone wondering what colours are in right now, navy, grey, cocoa, and forest green were all popular shades on the runway. Designers like Malorie Urbanovitch, known for their schoolgirl chic, reminded us that knee socks go with pretty much anything, while Paul Hardy’s shearling jackets also made quite the impression.

The Nine-to-Five look

Celebs and style magazines alike have both been noticing Caitlin Power (check out #PowerWoman), who has recently re-located to Toronto.

This woman puts together sleek, no-nonsense outfits that will make you feel like a powerhouse.

Next time you need to find that outfit that will blow away your fashion peers, look to this designer to fuel your inspiration. Luckily for us, we can find her collection at Leo Boutique in the Mount Royal hood.

Bo-Ho Chic

If bohemian is how you sum up your personal style then you should probably check out Edmonton’s Workhall, a boutique that brings major asymmetric and flowing looks that will make you feel downright romantic this season.

Sticking with the oversized style, Laura Siegel’s latest collection is also big on loose knits and drapey jackets.

And for anyone who considers themselves to be an ethical fashionista, you’ll be excited to know more about Project 1127; Siegel’s collection of beautiful silk hand woven scarves that pay tribute to the 1127 Bangladeshi factory workers who died in Rana Plaza in 2013.

By purchasing her scarves, you not only get a beautiful must-have fall accessory, you also help make a difference for other factory workers by supporting their fight for fair working conditions.

The Glamour Factor

Local designer Paul Hardy is synonymous with style in this city. After his recent success curating and totally revamping the Calgary Stampede Mercantile shop this year; he was back with a line up of stunning capes and jackets from his new lambs.s.laughter collection.

When the thermometer dips you’ll definitely be glad to have one of these.

Finally, Cayman Stylemaker Matthew Gallagher showcased some stunning, off the shoulder evening-wear and two tier trumpet hems, which were accessorized by jewelry designs by Lulu B.

These dresses might not be cheap, but if you’re looking to up your glamour factor for a fall event then check out the full Maison Matthew Gallagher page.
