Noteworthy Campaign: Chewie’s Grandpa

At Notable, we love being able to shine the spotlight on charities, not-for-profits, and philanthropic initiatives, bringing you the information you need to know to make informed decisions when you’re looking to support noteworthy endeavours. So when we find one that takes nothing more than a moment of your time to lend a helping hand, we’re all over it. Such is the case with the Chewie’s Grandpa campaign.

Daniel Park is a 42-year-old Toronto resident who’s looking for nothing more than a few minutes of your time on September 9th. His father, Kunsil (he also goes by Ken) Park, was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in 2009, and the Parks thought he had beaten it after treatment. Sadly, the cancer returned earlier this year (this time he’s fighting pancreatic cancer). On September 9th, Daniel is imploring friends, family, and strangers via social media to take a few moments and send their positive energy towards his father in the hopes it might help heal him. Call it a leap of faith, but for the spiritual Kunsil Park, the power of positive energy can be a wave of healing.

Whether or not you subscribe to this theory, you can’t help but be moved by this story. Pragmatism aside, it’s noteworthy that all Daniel is asking for is a thought, a prayer, a beacon of hope for his cancer-stricken father. The Chewie’s Grandpa campaign officially launched mid-June, but didn’t start gaining steam until this week when the Toronto Star picked up the story and ran it on the front page this past Sunday. The real heart of the campaign can be seen in Daniel’s YouTube video (watch it below) where he speaks to his father and to the message of positive energy having “miracle” effects. The date is insignificant – he chose it at random – but Daniel, his friends, and most importantly his father believe it can help with beating cancer.

Watch the video below and find Chewie’s Grandpa on Facebook, and on September 9th send your positive thoughts out into ether. Who knows what they’ll accomplish…
