This Map Shows What Every Country in the World Does Best

Let’s play a little game. We’ll say a word, and you tell us which country comes to mind.

Dashcams.
Best passport.
Chinook salmon.

While every country would like to believe they’re the best in the world at some noble concept or metric, the truth is there can only be one that ranks at the top in happiness, healthiness, innovation, and the like. With almost 200 countries in the world, some will have to settle for being the top kiwi producers, rubber glove manufacturers, or home for sun-tailed monkeys. Others are “best” by some pretty dreadful measures – child brides, fat kids, cocaine, etc.

London-based author, writer, and designer David McCandless recently created his annual ‘International Number Ones’ map, which highlights one thing every country in the world is better at than anywhere else.

Canada claimed perhaps the best title – better than any other country in the world when it comes to personal freedom – while our neighbours to the South are remarkable for their circulation of spam emails.

Both are improvements since 2010, when Canada was exceptional for its number of fruit juice drinkers while the U.S. was unique for its concentration of serial killers.
