Lacoste launched their new Tribute Footwear Collection yesterday at Town Shoes’ flagship store on Bloor Street, with notable guest Milos Raonic. It was a perfect fit: the limited-edition Tribute Collection pays homage to René Lacoste’s epic sporting achievements – including winning titles at Wimbledon, the US championships, and the French Open – and Milos Raonic is a sky-rocketing Canadian tennis star, himself being Canada’s highest-ever ranked player – at the young age of 20, no less.
René Lacoste was fondly nicknamed Le Crocodile – partly because of his tenacity and passion on the tennis court – hence the Lacoste emblem. The Lacoste Tribute Collection takes influences from the court mixed with a nod to the heritage tennis clothing of the 70s. The collection’s three styles – Newsome Twin Cup, Suzuka, and Evershot – are all carefully designed with thoughtful detail. A mix of old and new, the Lacoste Tribute Collection features streamlined cuts and minimal detailing – the footwear still has Lacoste’s classic charm and aesthetic.
