Instagram Announces Update That Allows Users to Share Portrait and Landscape-Style Photos

Look, we know, it’s hip(ster) to be square.

But everyone’s favourite photo-sharing app made a big announcement today that could make a lot of users very happy.

Previously, Instagram only allowed photos to be shared in a square resolution (600×600), which meant you had to choose what part of your meal or which friend you wanted to cut out of your pictures.

This problem will now be a thing of the past as Instagram announced that both photos and videos can now be shared in portrait and landscape mode, meaning goodbye awkward square photos and hello beautiful, full-sized captures.

This will open up a whole new world for users of the app, and allow for some seriously awesome shots.

Of course, you’ll have to come up with a new excuse for why you had to cut Felicia out of the photo – but we’re sure you’ll think of something.

The announcement was made by the company, obviously on Instagram, this afternoon.
