Grade Eight Student Nails How White People Should Discuss White Privilege

At a time when race relations seem to be in chaos in North America, one eighth grader just nailed how white people should discuss white privilege.

And he sounds a lot smarter than most of the adults on my Facebook feed, that’s for sure.

Royce Mann, 14, a student at The Paideia School in Atlanta, has taken home the first place prize in a poetry slam for his poem titled, “White Boy Privilege.”

In a captivating performance, Mann apologizes for the “privilege” of white boys and men. He apologizes to white women, blacks, Native Americans, immigrants and “everyone who isn’t a middle or upper-class white boy” like himself.
