By 2016 You’ll Be Able to Live Off the Grid in Your Own Personal Pod

Come next year, it’s going to get easier to live off the grid – no matter what your MO for doing so is.

That’s because you’ll be able to purchase a tiny wind and solar powered home that lets you live off the grid almost anywhere for up to a year.

Designed by the Bratislava-based Nice Architects, Ecocapsules are equipped with solar panels and a retractable wind-turbine, and are able to capture rainwater.

The interior houses a kitchenette with running water, a flushing toilet, a hot shower, and insulated walls. It comfortably sleeps two (and probably three uncomfortably), and has 8 square metres of living space.

The pods can be deployed anywhere and its uses are numerous – think, anything from emergency housing and a humanitarian action unit, all the way to being a functional research station.

They could even be used instead of a tent for that off-the-grid vacation you’ve been craving as of late – the pods can be towed behind a trailer.

If you’re in the market for an Ecocapsule, you’ll be able to pre-order at the end of 2015 for a delivery in the first half of 2016. As for the price, that’s yet to be determined.

But you may want to start saving now, ’cause we’re guessing they’re not going to come cheap.
