Behind the Scenes at the L’Oreal Men Expert Bobsleigh Race in Whistler

Last week we had the amazing opportunity to head to Whistler for their annual Whistler Film Festival with the L’Oréal Paris team.

While there, we got to participate in a variety of awesome activities including the always exciting and fun-to-watch L’Oreal Men Expert Bobsleigh Race.

To learn more about the race we caught up with Hugo Thibault, Integrated Marketing Communications Director of Men Expert Canada to get all the info you need.

The inaugural L’Oréal Men Expert Bobsleigh Race took place this weekend, tell us a little about this awesome initiative?
It is the 15-year anniversary of the Whistler Film Festival this year and they were looking to add another sports segment to the festival aside from their Celebrity Ski race so we decided to be the title sponsor as Men Expert is all about adrenaline, speed and agility, the perfect fit for such a thrilling sport as the bobsleigh.

Who was involved in the race this year?
We had 12 teams competing in this first edition of the race. Teams included movie directors, actors like Marc-André Grondin and Chris Violette, online influencers Randa Salloum and Crystal Carson and many more. It truly always brings out a variety of amazing and influential people.

Did the participants need training prior to participating?
We did get a full training by Canadian Bobsleigh medalist at the Whistler Olympics of 2010, Lyndon Rush. He gave us the 101 of the fastest bobsleigh track in the world, yep, this is in Whistler. We then had to go on the ice and walk the track all the way down to learn how to maneuver each turns so we could rock the race after.

The race is also a great way for bonding and team building…
Yes it is, as you have to work in team with your pilot. Even if you are sitting at the back, you are the one that has control of the breaks. Breaks you can only use once you pass the finish line. It might sound scary but it’s actually quite exhilarating.

For everyone that will want to attend next year, is this open to the public?
It is open to the public. Teams can register online at the WFF.com site and the space is limited to 15 teams so make sure you get in as early as possible.

What is it about the Whistler Film Festival that makes it so special?
It’s the surroundings of the outdoors, the openness of the people of the West Coast and the Whistler Ski station. You can ski during the day (or bobsleigh), catch movies during the day and meet talent and directors at the industry parties at night. It’s a proximity you don’t see at TIFF or Cannes that really allows you to get up close and personal with some special people and network.

The race is also charitable, where are the funds allocated?
Proceeds raised from this “fun-raising” event will support our annual programs for Canadian artists, including our industry initiatives, labs and festival.
