Open Roof Festival continues this week with the documentary Beauty Day. Read on after The Vitals to find out how to win two tickets to this week’s Open Roof Festival screening.

Before there was Jackass or Tom Green there was Ralph Zavadil. His cable access television show, The Cap’n Video Show, ran for five years starting in 1990, and amassed a small but loyal cult following of viewers intrigued by his often idiotic and dangerous stunts. His unique brand of gross-out stunt comedy was truly ahead of its time, but he wasn’t really noticed until a broken neck…

Open Roof Festival’s moviegoers will be treated to a live performance by The Darcys, a Toronto-based four piece, post-soul shoegaze band. Their forthcoming self-titled album will be released this fall and has been described as “a dense, challenging, monstrously tuneful prog-rock epic that improbably finds common ground between Radiohead and Steely Dan,” by the Toronto Star‘s Ben Rayner.

Open Roof Festival is a Toronto summer movie series located outdoors with the city as its backdrop. Each night of the festival – running Thursdays from June 16th through September 1st – will feature a live band and a great flick under the nighttime hue of city lights. The mandate of Open Roof Festival is to provide Toronto with an outdoor summer experience that highlights independent artists from Canada and around the world. It’s more than just another night at the movies, it’s an evening of arts and entertainment in support of Toronto’s independent film community.
