Anthony Bourdain Says This is the One Food You Should Never Eat

I recently flew back home to Vancouver for the weekend to see my friends and family.

It was a fairly standard five-hour evening flight, I watched a movie and got caught up on work.

But as the four-hour mark hit and the smell of hot food began to waft down the aisle I started to remember I hadn’t eaten after work.

By the time the flight attendant made her way back to row 20 and handed me what was left of the ‘dinner options,’  I also remembered why I previously vowed to never eat on airplanes again.

My dinner, which was supposed to be chicken parmigiana, arrived in more of a slop like substance and when I cut into my dinner my plastic knife snapped because the ‘chicken’ was still frozen.

If the sight of this dish wasn’t bad enough, the smell had me squirming in my seat, not to mention my stomach was in knots after one bite, which reminded me of an interview I had recently read with celebrity chef and traveler Anthony Bourdain.

The man who has eaten nearly everything — including mystery meat and seal eyes— says there’s one thing he just can’t stomach.

The host of CNN’s Parts Unknown revealed the one food he will not eat is airplane food.

“No one has ever felt better after eating plane food,” explains Bourdain. “I think people only eat it because they’re bored. I don’t eat on planes. I like to arrive hungry.”

Even when he’s traveling from New York to some far-flung destination, Bourdain refuses to touch airplane food no matter how hungry he may be.

“For a super-long flight, I’d order cheese and s**t load of port. I’d eat some cheese and drink myself stupid,” he said.

Bourdain’s logic should be a lesson for all of us. If the guy who’s eaten cobra hearts (that are still beating) refuses to eat the vacuum-packed meals we’re so casually tossed on overnight hauls, maybe we should listen.

I know I learned my lesson…stick with wine.
